It is said that the Pittsburgh and Alleghany banks and schools were closed on the day of the funeral, although no reference to this is made in the accounts of the funeral published the next day in the Pittsburgh papers.
Stephen Foster's grave in Alleghany Cemeteryjis marked by a simple marble stone, on which are the words:

of Pittsburgh.
